Boxborough Birders
Went on several walks with the Boxborough Birders over the last month at Fruitlands, Barret's Mill, and yesterday, at Jenks. Not a ton of birds, but Black and White and Common Yellowthroats were seen in most of these walks, as well as some other quick outings.
At Jenks, we decided the Black and White was a female, because the breast was pretty plain (rather than starkly black and white). Something like the picture below, which the photographer guessed was a juvenile, for the same basic reason.
Below is the male for comparison.
The other thing I learned yesterday was that you can differentiate male and female red bellied woodpeckers by how far the red extends forward.
