Delaney with the Boxborough Birders
Lori and I joined Rita and Co. at the Delaney WMA this morning. Cold, windy, and mostly dreary, but with some good birds.
First Snow Geese for the Krinsky's.
A juvenile eagle soaring above us.
Warblers: Many yellow rumps and one or two black and whites.
The Usual Suspects: Killdeer, chipping sparrows, blue birds, tons of tree swallows.

The Warblers are Coming! The Warblers are Coming!
Actually, the warblers are here. They arrived at Ice House Pond on the nineteenth of April (Patriots Day).
I was there about 5:00 PM yesterday and the yellow rumps and palm warblers were all along the shore of the pond. I probably saw at least two dozen yellow rumps and maybe six or so palms. The palm views were the best I've had in years.

Ring Necked Ducks
As Spring arrives, I just want to note that the MVD of this winter was the ring necked duck. It was seen frequently, in many places, and in large numbers. The best sighting was at Captain Sargeant, where we saw about fifty during one trip, along with a smattering of mergansers and teals.
We also ran into three Pileated Woodpeckers and three Boxboro Birders.
Thrushes at Acton Arboretum
Saw two thrushes at the Acton Arboretum this morning. I'm not sure what kind. I'm guessing Hermit, but I don't really know. The first picture below is a Hermit Thrush, the second is a Swainson's Thrush. Pretty similar and definitely not conclusive.
According to
Based on the following comments found on the web, I'm going with the Hermit Thrush, since at least one of the birds today was chowing down berries.
Hermit thrushes have a more varied diet compared to Swainson’s Thrush. They eat insects, spiders, and small invertebrates. However, they also consume a significant amount of fruits and berries, even during the breeding season.
