Sunday River

Did some birding therapy at our family gathering and grieving in Maine over the last couple of weeks.  As I learned last summer, lots of migrating warblers are on their way to Maine.   Found several of them at Ross' house at Sunday River.

The house was surrounded by Northern Parulas.

There were also a fair number of Chestnut Warblers.

And the last day, spotted a Blackburnian.

Plenty of other birds as well.  Woke up to a Hermit Thrush song on my last day and had several good looks at one or more great-crested flycathers the first day at Ross'.  Also ravens, red-eyed vireos, common yellow-throats and Eastern phoebes.  Merlin kept identifying blue-headed vireos, but I never could ID one by sight.

Bolton Flats / Pine Hill

Tried a couple of lots at Bolton Flats yesterday with limited sucess.  Did get several yellow warblers.  Then headed over to Pine Hill (which is really part of Bolton Flats WMA) and had some good sightings.

As usual, found both prairi warblers and an indigo bunting (light wasn't great on the latter).

Also saw what Merlin ID'ed as a purple finch.  It looked and sounded pretty similar to a house finch and I wouldn't have gotten it right (assuming Merlin did).

Also saw three cedar waxwings and a rose breasted grosbeak
