Great Meadows

Spent two hours at Great Meadows this morning.

First good sighting was a Yellow Warbler.  Like the bird pictured, it did not have the rust colored lines on its chest.  A fellow birder, much better than I, confirmed it was a yellow though.

Next up was a close-up view of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Then, again with the help of the same fellow birder, I ID'd a Warbling Vireo.
(A little boring to look at honestly).

On the way out, I'm pretty sure I saw another Yellow Throated Vireo.  It was in the tall grasses on the water's edge.  It seemed a little duller that this picture.  And I'm not sure if I saw the white.

could it have been a Pine Warbler?  Are these really pictures of two different birds?

Is there another choice?  I'm not sure anymore what I saw.

And I saw a Yellow Throated Vireo.  First time, so that was nice.

McWain and the Week in Review

Made a quick overnight trip up to Maine.  The bird highlight was a long, clear look at a singing ovenbird (in the Maine house driveway).

We stopped in Ogunquit on the way home and enjoyed the piping plovers.  I put in the action photo because these guys like to run.  We also saw some small groups flying and piping.

Nice bird.

Last weekend, Lori and I had some quiet walks, but each was saved by a single sighting.

We saw an Oriole one evening near the tennis bubble.

Arrived at the Acton Arboretum at 6:00 AM today.

First up was a tree full of waxwings.

Over the weekend, I biked to Hen Heath for some birding.  Mostly red-winged blackbirds.  On Saturday, I was at both Jenks and the tennis bubble area.  Great Blue Heron was the highlight.  Plus some phoebes and Eastern Kingbirds, way up high.  And a cool looking Grackle.
