The Last Day of May

May, and I guess the migration, ends today.  Not my best year, but not terrible either.

The summer birds are still here.  Plenty of blue-winged warblers at Assabet and got a good view on Wednesday.

And today, near the main visitor center at Assabet, I spotted a scarlet tanager.

Both species will be here all Summer.  It just takes some patience to find them now that the trees have leafed out.

Great Meadows with Guests

Last Sunday I took Lori, Hooter and the Wymans to Great Meadows.  Wood ducks, yellow warblers, common yellowthroats all showed up as expected.  We also had a great view of Eastern Kingbird.

Great Meadows

Danno and I walked the loop at Great Meadows.  Lots of yellow warblers, some common yellow throats, and wood ducks.

Arboretum Ad Naseum

Another morning at the Acton Arboretum and another success.  The clear highlight was a Magnolia Warbler (second year in a row for the Magnolia and the earlier Nashville).

With help from Merlin, I heard a Chestnut Warbler.  But as I may have hit in my sight, two birds flew across into a pretty high tree.  I could see the birds, but not really identify them.  So I'll leave it as a maybe.

I did get a very nice look at a Scarlet Tanager

And a Red Fox, which was close enough to make me pick up a club sized stick for defense.

Double Header

Birded at the Arboretum this morning and had the best parula view I've had in years.  Made the otherwise quiet trip worth it.

Birded at Assabet this evening and saw a molting scarlet tanager and a beautiful blue winged warbler.

Boxborough Birders

Joined the Boxborough Birders for the first time this season for a walk at Horse Meadow Knolls.  It was my first time there.  Nice place.

Highlights included ovenbirds and a scarlet tanager.

Warblers

Warblers started showing up last week.  Nothing great yet, but I saw yellow rumps and northern parulas at the Acton Arboretum.
