Great Meadows with the Brookline Birding Club

Spent three hours at Great Meadows this morning with a small group of Brookine Birders.  Plenty of yellows and common yellow throats.  Heard a Least Bittern, but no where close to seeing it.  Too bad, this is what it would have looked like.

Did see some nice birds though.  A quick view of a Virginia Rail crossing the path

Had a nice look at a willow flycatcher

and another of a peewee

And on the way out, saw a soaring eagle.

Great Meadows

Beautiful morning in Concord.  The highlight were the yellow warblers and I had some great looks.

A close second was the kingfisher in action, hovering and diving for fish.

Plenty of swamp sparrows as well.

More Good Stuff at the Acton Arboretum, plus Orioles and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks Abound

Tracked down a chestnut sided warbler this morning at the Acton Arboretum

Over the last week, I've seen orioles and rose-breasted grosbeaks pretty much dail.

And last weekend I got my bins on an eastern peewee.

Weekend Recap

Spent Saturday morning with the Boxborough Birders at the Assabet River NWR.  The day started well with a Scarlet Tanager and ended well with Pine Warbler.  In between, we scoped out some Great Blue Heron nests and spent a lot of time for a bad glimpse of an Oriole.

Enjoyed the company.  It was a good group.

Sunday I took Gui out to Heald Orchards.  It did not disappoint.

Blue-wing and common yellow throat warblers, American redstarts and kestrels, field sparrows and an oriole or two.
