Thanksgiving Weekend

Though tempting, I will not post a turkey, dead or alive.

Saturday we spent a couple of hours up at Plum Island.  A lot of ducks, not all that easy to ID though.  My conclusion after checking eBird and viewing some videos is that we can at least confirm a group of Common Eiders

And many Buffleheads (looking black and white with no real signs of the color)

we also saw three small birds which I believe were Dunlins, though we initially ID'ed them as Sanderlings.   Hard to say really, but the longer, droopier beak of the Dunlin convinced me.

Sunday I went over the Ice House Pond.  Plenty of juncos, a nice pair of cardinals,

and a small flock of Cedar Waxwings

Duck Season: Arlington Reservoir

A lot of birders showed up at the Arlington Reservoir on a 70 degree November day.  Most were looking for the Redhead duck.

Other ducks included two Black Ducks

six Ruddy Ducks

a couple of not very colorful Green-Winged Teals

one Hooded Merganser

And plenty of beautiful Mallards
