Arboretum

Still pretty quiet at the Acton Arboretum, but I did get a great look at a Black and White Warbler

as well as a couple of yellow rumped, a pair of cowbirds, and the standard fare of chickadees and cardinals.

Captain Sargent Conservation Land

Started up the trail and was immediately surrounded by yellow rumped warblers.

That was about it though.  It was cold. I heard some pine warblers, but never saw them.

Quick trip to the Arboretum this morning.

and one Thrush, I think it was a hermit.

Heating Up

Surprised to see two wood ducks up in the trees in the Acton Arboretum.

But I guess that is where they nest.

Spotted three Palm Warblers up pretty high catching flies.

And saw my FOY yellow rump.

Plus great views of a red-bellied wood pecker and Carolina wren.

It was a good morning.

Portsmouth

Snuck in a little birding.  Well worth it.

Five glossy ibises showed up.

That was after finding a pair of surf scoters

And I think a snowy egret

Monday Birding

Hit the Arboretum with Priya yesterday.  Highlights were a pair of  northern flickers

and four brown headed cowbirds (two male, two female)

On Sunday I spotted a pileated while biking on the path near the ice house pond.

They're Back

Two Palm Warblers at the Acton Arboretum this morning.  They were by the bridge over the pond.

Let the festivities begin.

Pre-work Birding

There is always time to sneak a little bit of birding in.

Yesterday (between a bagel stop and dump run)  I spotted four common mergansers at Ice House Pond

Today it was a Brown Creeper at Acton Arboretum (mad possible by a canceled 7:30 AM meeting).

Belated Weekend Update

Had a pretty good April weekend.

Lori and I took the scope to Hagerland.  In addition to the wood ducks and ring-necked ducks, we also had a good view of a half dozen or so buffleheads.  While not as colorful as the pictures, I could make out a bit of the red and green on its head.

Sunday I went to the Acton Arboretum and was surprised by a close encounter with two pairs of wood ducks.

And, for the third time already this Spring, a couple of golden crowned kinglets, this time low and close enough to get a good luck at.

Sunday afternoon Lori and I were back out, this time to the Boxborough WMA to see the osprey nest (and ospreys of course)

I was back there today at lunch with some co-workers in tow.

Hagerland with and without the Boxborough Birders

Got a scope for my Birthday on Thursday.  Tried it out Saturday afternoon behind Blanchard.  And then carried it for two and a half hours on Sunday at Hagerland with the Boxborough Birders.  It is a little cumbersome, but it provides great duck views.

Plenty of ring necked and wood ducks.  The new bird was the Pied-bill Grebe.  There were two hanging around some mergansers.

Also got a bufflehead in my scope

But still couldn't identify any of the green/red .
